Shawn Pickler is a world-class drummer, composer and producer specializing in versatility. Originally from Kansas City, MO, Pickler began drums at age 18 and played Alternative Rock with various groups in the Kansas City area before shifting his studies towards jazz music in 1996. Following 2 years of drum lessons with the great Todd Strait, a legend in jazz drums in the Midwest, Pickler relocated to the University of North Texas with a jazz scholarship to study with the world-renowned teacher Ed Soph. While at UNT, Pickler ascended to the drum chair of the One ‘O Clock Lab Band and received an award for outstanding musicianship from the IAJE organization in 2006. After finishing college, Pickler maintained a busy schedule of performing and recording in the Dallas/Fort Worth area until deciding to follow a great opportunity to live in South Korea and continue his musical pursuits. Since 2009, Pickler has made a name for himself in Seoul, South Korea, recording 7 albums and performing with various artists Woongsan, Bobby Kim, Vian and leading two of his own groups. Pickler is currently immersed in his own projects, which consist of a jazz quartet featuring the music of John Coltrane and another group that performs live electronica including such genres as Jungle, Drum and Bass, Dubstep and House.
